What is different about the GSC compared to the traditional Core Module?

The Core Module was originally designed to be offered on both a popular and an academic level. The content has always been based on the curriculum at the Oxford Center for Christian Apologetics, so is suitable to both audiences. However, to meet academic standards we added a few elements.

The biggest differences will be that the reading is required, the assignments are graded, and discussion forum participation is reflected in the final grade. The lectures and assignments are all the same as the traditional Core Module, though some additional stipulations may be placed on the requirements for assignment submission. There are four required texts for the GSC version, and students will be required to state the percentage of the reading they have completed. Make sure to check with your teaching assistant if you have any questions.

Can I transfer this credit to another school?

Yes. You will receive fully transferable credit hours. Once you have completed the Core Module and your grades have been submitted, you can request your transcript from Trinity and follow the necessary procedures for applying for transfer credit at your university or seminary.

What are the requirements to enroll?

All students must possess an undergraduate degree from an eligible institution to be able to receive graduate school credit through Trinity. The reason for this is that in order to receive credit, you must be admitted as a visiting student. Visiting students must have an undergraduate degree to be accepted.

What if I am unable to complete the course?

To drop this course without penalty and receive a full refund, students must officially notify the teaching assistant for this course within 2 weeks of the course start date. The drop date for this course will be September 21.

After that date, students will have until week 6 to choose not to pursue the graduate school credit or withdraw altogether. To withdraw, students must submit an official withdrawal form, which will be provided upon request. Students who withdraw before the midway point of the class will receive a “W” (withdrawal mark) on their transcript and their GPA (Grade point average) will not be adversely affected by it. Students who attempt to withdraw past the midway point of the class will receive a failing grade.The withdrawal date for this course is October 19.

If a student chooses to remain in the course without receiving credit from Trinity, the withdrawal form must still be submitted by the withdrawal date. These students may still receive an RZIM Academy certificate, but will not receive credit from Trinity. Students who withdraw within 6 weeks, but after the drop date, may either re-enroll in another non-GSC section of the Core Module at no additional cost, or receive a 20% refund.

How will I receive my transcript?

Upon completion of the course, you will be given instructions for how to contact Trinity about further study, or to receive a copy of your transcript to transfer credit to another institution.

Are other courses available for credit?

At this time, only the Core Module-GSC is available for credit.

Are there scholarships available?

Scholarships are available for all RZIM Academy courses. If you would like to apply for a partial scholarship, please download and submit your Scholarship Application no later than August 31.

Can I take elective courses in the RZIM Academy once I have completed the Core Module-GSC?

Yes. Students who complete the Core Module GSC will be given full alumni privileges, including continued access to lecture content through RZIM Connect, and eligibility to enroll in any of the RZIM Academy elective courses. Electives currently available include Faith Seeking Understanding: An introduction to Christian Doctrine; Islam; the Bible; Why Suffering?; Science; and Engaging the Modern World. Coming this fall: What Does It Mean To Be Human?. Coming in 2019: Christian Ethics.

How are the classes structured?  Are there any live scheduled elements?

Each section of a particular course or module will include 100 students and one moderator.  All learning is asynchronous, meaning it can be done at any time of day according to the individual’s schedule.   However, one priority in this course is to foster classroom community and discussion, which means that from week to week it will be important to be on pace with the rest of the section.

Each week there will be two or three lectures, along with some additional videos such as a clip from a Q&A session from a recent RZIM event.  There will be practical assignments about every other week, and an active discussion board where students can post their assignment results and give each other feedback.

New content will be posted at the start of each week, and will be accessible at any time from that point forward.  This includes all lectures, notes, assignments, and any other element included in the syllabus for that week.

Check with your TA for information about weekly office hours.  These will be by appointment only within the scheduled window of time each week.  Office hours are also subject to change.
